What to Expect from Website Design in 2019

Designing a website is a daunting task, even if you have someone to design it for you. There’s so much to choose from. Whether it’s the colour theme, layout, content or images, making a decision is a big deal when you have to stick with it.

The creative industry in its entirety changes on a regular basis, so website design is just one more thing we can expect to alter in the new year. Here is what we expect to see more of and become more popular in 2019.

Video landing page

The homepage of a website is the most important part to get right, especially if you are in an industry that requires any kind of creativity. This could be anything from kitchen installation and interior design to marketing and event planning. It has been proven in many ways that videos are a more effective way of grabbing the attention of your audience than images alone. This is because our brains retain visual content better than a page loaded with words. According to studies, the average viewer remembers 95% of a message when it is watched, compared to 10% when it is read.

Colour clash

The trend of 2018 was minimalism and it doesn’t appear to be something that will disappear any time soon. There is no doubt that we will see more websites keeping a clean and tidy theme throughout. However, we think that colour clashing is going to become a big trend of 2019. When people think minimalism, they think ‘white background with a hint of colour, creativity is all about being innovative and pushing the visual boundaries. By choosing colours that clash you are making a statement and opening people up to the idea that design doesn’t have to be plain to be minimalistic.

The burger menu

A good way of making a website look clean and easy to navigate is to add a ‘burger menu’ in one of the corners. This also helps when you optimise a website to be used on a mobile. You are then able to provide a long list of options to ensure the users are directed to the specific page they are after, without it all in one place looking overcrowded.
