Let’s take a look at Instagram first. Their most obvious advantage is that they are great for showcasing your products or what your business does. Being a video and photo sharing platform, it makes it incredibly easy to upload example work for your followers to see. As well as this; it is relatively easy to build up a following, especially with the use of hashtags. 

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a perfect social media platform. Whilst being able to share snaps of your products can be beneficial, it can also become very time-consuming to make sure you are putting fresh content out there all the time. As well as this, the algorithm can sometimes work against you. The way in which Instagram works is that it shows you what it thinks you want to see. This is great for the consumer however when it comes to a business, it can mean that sometimes, your posts are missed in the feeds of your followers. 

LinkedIn

Much like many of the other platforms out there, LinkedIn is great because it’s free. This means you can reap the benefits without having to pay for them. It also offers a perfectly professional environment for your business if you are in a corporate industry. Having LinkedIn is also great for interacting with other businesses, connecting with potential customers and showcasing what you have to offer.

Having said this, LinkedIn doesn’t offer quite as many ways to interact as some of the other platforms. With the likes of Instagram and Facebook, you can post stories. This option isn’t available on LinkedIn. Arguably, this could be viewed as a pro rather than a con for the simple reason that it has been designed to focus on the professional side of things rather than personal; but we’ll let you make your own mind up on that one. As well as this, you also need to be prepared for spam. Whilst you may want to take a more delicate approach when it comes to how you utilise this platform, many companies don’t. This means you may receive some unwarranted connect requests and messages from people purely looking to sell. 

Twitter

As social media marketing companies in the UK will tell you, Twitter is extremely relaxed when it comes to posting. This means you can talk about a wider variety of things and it’ll probably still go down well. It’s a fun platform and it can definitely be a good place to market your brand.

In order to be seen on Twitter, you do however have to post very regularly to gain any sort of traction. This can mean it becomes very time-consuming as well as making it hard to stay authentic. 

Facebook

Like all social media platforms, their main advantage is in building up recognition surrounding your brand. As well as this, they’re also great for boosting your SEO. Unlike some other platforms, Facebook also offers a range of ways for people to interact with your posts offering more options to gain engagement.

However, having your own Facebook business profile can also be very time-consuming. As well as this, businesses often struggle to make this platform a success without having to pay for advertising. To combat this, it may be more cost-effective to outsource the work to a marketing company.
